sixth-University of Minnesota women's tennis players Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy found more success today at the 7th Annual Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, PA. As a doubles team, the sixth- seeded Buergis and Reddy advanced to the finals, defeating the No. 3 and No. 1 seeds along the way.
In doubles action, Buergis and Reddy dropped No. 3 Pirsu/Chao of Penn, 8-5, before upsetting Harvard's Bergman and Lingman, the top seed, 8-5. The Golden Gophers advance to face Smekodub/D. Ivanov of Tulane in the finals tomorrow.
In singles play, the fifth seeded Buergis defeated Raluca Ciochina of Penn, 7-6, 6-1. She then fell to Courtney Bergman of Harvard in the quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In consolation singles Reddy advanced with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lehigh's Rachel Sampson. Reddy moves on to the consolation semifinals.
The Cissie Leary Invitational concludes Sunday at the University of Pennsylvania.
