Junior Karina Chiarelli and freshman Alessandra Ferrazzi captured the Flight A doubles title and the Minnesota women’s tennis team combined to win eight of its 12 matches during the final day of competition Sunday at the UNM Fall Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
Chiarelli and Ferrazzi defeated New Mexico’s Lucy Scott and Sandra Zmak, 8-5, to win their second straight tournament. The duo, which won the Flight A doubles competition at last weekend’s Gopher Invitational, has now won seven matches in a row to start the season
The Gopher tandems of sophomore Tijana Koprivica and senior Lindsay Risebrough and sophomores Jackie Sperling and Mikayla Rogers were also victorious Sunday helping Minnesota to a 3-1 mark in doubles play on the day.
In singles, Ferrazzi moved to 7-1 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gleisy Torres-Torres of Colorado. Chiarelli, Risebrough, Rogers and senior Danielle Mosseau also won their final matches on Sunday for the Gophers.
The Minnesota women’s tennis team returns to action Oct. 5-7, when the Gophers travel to Evanston, Ill., for the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern.
