Tereza Brichacovia and Jessika Mozia each earned Gopher Invitational singles championship titles for the Minnesota women's tennis team at the Baseline Tennis Center Sunday. Overall, the Gophers went 26-14 in singles and 13-7 in doubles on the weekend, including a 4-6 singles mark and a 4-1 doubles ledger on the final day.
Every Gopher finished ninth or higher in both singles and doubles.
Brichacova earned a win in the top flight, the "M" Flight, with a hard-fought win over Iowa State's Ksenia Pronina, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (5). Mozia won the "U" Flight by defeating teammate Aria Lambert in the final match. Julia Courter beat Wisconsin's Helen Rabot in straight set for seventh place in the same flight and newcomer Kendall Heitzner won the fifth-place match in the Gold Flight for Minnesota's final singles victory of the day.
Freshman Maja Vujic reached the Gold Flight final in her first weekend as a Gopher, but fell 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8) to Drake's Maddie Johnson. Paula Rincon Otero, Kelsey Frechette, Natallia Pintusava, and Yuliana Umanets each lost to finish fourth, fourth, sixth, and eighth in their respective flights.
In doubles, Pintusava and Courter took third in the top flight with an 8-4 win over South Dakota State's Ffion Davies and Jenny Blackburne, while Mozia and Heitzer finished in the same spot in their bracket with an 8-3 triumph against Northern Iowa's Jordyn Kearney and Sydney Wolfe.
After being relegated to the back draw with a first-round loss, Brichacova and Rincon Otero finished a perfect 3-0 to take ninth in the Gold Flight. In the Maroon Flight, Lambert and Frechette finished sixth and Umanets and Vujic came in seventh.
The next action Minnesota will see will come when Pintusava travels to Pacific Palisades, Calif. for the prequalifying round of the ITA All-American Tournament. The Gophers will then travel to Evanston, Ill. from Oct. 4-6 to play Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational.

The University of Minnesota women’s tennis team held their team banquet Sunday where they handed out team awards and celebrated the season.
