The University of Minnesota women's tennis team will get its fall season underway this weekend by hosting the Gopher Invitational tournament at the Baseline Tennis Center. All 11 Gophers on the roster will participate in the tournament, which will also include players from 10 other schools Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Drake, Eastern Michigan, North Dakota, Iowa State, South Dakota State and Gonzaga.

Doubles play at the Gopher Invitational gets underway Friday morning at 9 and will begin at the same time Saturday and Sunday. Singles play kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday. There will be five singles flights with 79 players competing and three doubles flights that include 39 doubles teams.
Competing in the "M" singles flight will be junior Tereza Brichacova and senior Natallia Pintusava. In the Round of 16, Brichacova will take on Florencia Magni of SDSU while Pintusava will play South Dakota's Rymma Maslova. Both Minnesota players will be making their Gopher Invitational debuts.
The "U" singles flight features four Minnesota players: Paula Rincon Otero, Aria Lambert, Julia Courter, and Jessika Mozia. All four players are Gopher Invitational veterans. Juniors Courter (4-3) and Lambert (4-4) have won four career singles matches apiece at the tournament.
Three Gophers, including newcomers Maja Vujic and Kendall Heitzner, will play in the Gold singles flight. They will be joined by senior Yuliana Umanets, who will play in her team's fall tournament for the first time.

Sophomore Kelsey Frechette will be the Gophers' lone representative in the Maroon singles flight, while Pauline Gilbert will do the same in the Gopher singles flight. The Gopher Flight will have 15 players while the rest of the flights will have 16.
In doubles play, the Gold and Maroon flights will have 16 doubles tandems while the Gopher flight will have seven.
Pintusava and Courter and Rincon and Brichacova will represent the Maroon and Gold in the Gold flight, while the remaining Minnesota duos--Mozia and Heitzner, Lambert and Frechette, and Vujic and Umanets--will play in the Maroon flight.
Gopher Invitational matches will take place both indoors and outdoors on all 22 courts at the Baseline Tennis Center. Minnesota will pick up play at the Northern Iowa Invitation Sept. 27 and will send players to five more fall tournaments ending in November. The spring season will begin with four Gopher Invitational teams--Eastern Michigan, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota State--coming to town beginning Jan. 19.
