The University of Minnesota women's tennis team announced its schedule for the 2010-11 season today. The Gophers, led by coach Tyler Thomson, will once again begin their season campaign with a slate of fall tournaments.
Minnesota will play in five fall events beginning with the Sept. 10-12 Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa. The Gophers will also play in the Cal Nike Invitational, Wildcat Invitation, Wilson/ITA Central Regional Championships and will end their fall schedule with the Nov. 5-7 Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The team's schedule ramps up again in 2011 when the Gophers head to Huntington, W. Va., for a January 21 matchup with Marshall. The squad opens Big Ten competition at home in Baseline Tennis Center on March 4 against Wisconsin. Minnesota also hosts Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State in league play and travels to Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue this year.
Minnesota's challenging non-conference schedule includes home matches with Brigham Young, Carleton, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Oklahoma and Oregon. The schedule also includes road matches to Marquette, Missouri, North Carolina, North Carolina-Wilmington and William & Mary and neutral-site matches versus Drake and Kentucky.
