The Minnesota women's tennis program has announced its 2013-14 schedule. Under the direction of second year head coach, Chuck Merzbacher, the women's program will see a variety of competitors throughout the fall and spring seasons. The Golden Gophers are hopeful that they can improve on their 2012-13 season and their final record of 10-15.
The fall season will open at home in late September with the program's annual tournament, the Gopher Invitational which will be held Sept. 20 through 22. The tournament will host eleven teams including the Gophers. The other ten teams will travel from around the country in order to play in the annual tournament at Baseline Tennis Center. These teams include South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Drake, Eastern Michigan, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Iowa State, South Dakota State and Gonzaga.
Select Gophers will then set their sites to Iowa for the UNI Panther Invitational Sept. 27-29 and other members to the west to participate in the All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. which will run from Sept. 28 through Oct. 6. October will be full of competition as the Gophers head to Evanston, Ill. Oct. 4-6 for the Wildcat Invitational at Northwestern and then to USTA/ITA Central Region Championships in Norman, Okla. Oct. 17-21. Minnesota will end its fall season in Chapel Hill, N.C. at the Kitty Harrison Invitational Nov. 8-10. If the team qualifies, the Gophers will concurrently compete in the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoors Nov. 7-10 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Spring season will begin Jan. 19 as Minnesota will host back-to-back matches against Eastern Michigan and Northern Iowa. The next weekend brings another double header as North Dakota and South Dakota State visit Baseline Tennis Center on Jan. 26. February brings a lot of play for the Maroon and Gold as they head to Montana on Feb. 2 and Oklahoma State and Oregon visit Baseline on Feb. 14 and Feb. 16 respectively. The following weekend Iowa State, Marshall and Carleton make their way to Baseline to take on the Golden Gophers.
Big Ten play starts on March 2 as the Gophers travel to Wisconsin. The team stays on the road for the next two weekends as they visit Marquette and Florida Gulf Coast. Big Ten play resumes with matches against Iowa (March 21) and Nebraska (March 23) and then the Gophers head home to host Purdue (March 28) and Indiana (March 30) at Baseline.
The month of April gives Minnesota their Big Ten fix as they travel to Coach Merzbacher's former homestead Ohio State (April 4), Penn State (April 6), Michigan (April 12) and Michigan State (April 13). The Gophers will finish out the regular season at home against Illinois and Northwestern. The team will then make their second trip to Evanston, Ill. on the year for the Big Ten Conference Tournament being held April 24-27.
Merzbacher Gets 400th Career Victory
The Courtside Classic comes to a close with the Gophers winning the consolation match over New Mexico 5-2 earning Coach Chuck Merzbacher his 400th career victory.

Courtside Classic day one is in the books with the Gophers falling 4-3 to DePaul. All three Gophers seniors pulled out singles wins on the day.

The re-established Courtside Classic is set for this weekend as the Gophers host DePaul, Mississippi State and New Mexico.
