overalMinnesota head coach Martin Novak was named the Big Ten Women's Tennis Coach of the Year. Novak guided the Golden Gophers to the team's first-ever conference final match this season and an 18-6 overall record.
Freshman Sandra Olsen earned the conference's Freshman of the Year award. Olsen has an 18-6 singles record, playing mainly at the No. 2 position. She won all three of her matches during the Big Ten Tournament. Olsen is Minnesota's second recipient of the award, as former Gopher Sitinee Rangsithienchai earned the award in 1996.
Senior Nora Sauska earned her fourth consecutive All-Big Ten honor in singles. She is the first Minnesota women's tennis player to earn four career All-Big Ten awards. Sauska leads the team with 22 singles wins during the 1999-2000 season and set a school record for career singles wins with 93. Olsen joined Sauska on the All-Big Ten team with her first award.
No. 29 Minnesota will take on No. 27 Tulsa (20-5) in the first round of the NCAA Championships May 12 in Tulsa, Okla. The Golden Gophers are making their fourth trip to regional competition in the last five years.
