Senior Day (4/22): Minnesota 6, Iowa 1
"Great moments are born from great opportunities." This is the beginning of one of my favorite speeches from the movie "Miracle" that I prepared for my fellow Gophers for my motivational speech on Sunday before the match against Iowa. Four years ago, I was fortunate enough to get one of the best opportunities ever, which was to be a part of the women's tennis team at the University of Minnesota.
Because of this amazing opportunity which coach Tyler Thomson gave to me, I have experienced some of the best times in my life. My Gopher career has been an amazing four-year journey. It is impossible to describe how much I have experienced and learned, especially about myself. I think it has given me great preparation for the rest of my life. It has been an incredible learning experience--a learning experience about myself and even about what it is going to be like after college.
One of the most important things that I have learned is to push myself everyday to give my best and to not judge myself on the results but by effort. This is a great attitude for life because some things we cannot control the outcome of. It does not matter how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get up. This is what life is about.
When I think about people that I have met during my four year in the team, I think about one of my favorite quotes: "Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same."
I would love to say thank you to my tennis coaches Tyler, Daria, Whitney, and Imke. Thank you for this great opportunity and thank you for believing in me. Thank you my strength and conditioning coaches Mia, Sara, and Kelly. It is with you that I have learned how hard I can work by showing me that I am capable of more than I think. Thank you my teammates: Alex, KC, Spilcs, Clay, T, Sperl, Liz, Petie, Len, Ale, Ronni, Tools, D, Lexi, Tash, Em, El, Yuli, Poli, Julia, Aria and Freshy. I am thankful that I have had a chance to get to know you. I will remember all of you because each of you have influenced me in some way. While you are all so different, you all have great qualities inside of you and a very bright future. I was extremely blessed to have you all as my teammates.
Thank you the University of Minnesota, to the people who are involved in our program and to our tennis fans for being there for us! I cannot describe how blessed and thankful I am for the last four years. They have given me some of the best moments of my life and I have created many relationships that I will have in my life forever. THANK YOU!
What is most exciting for me is that this amazing journey is not over yet. It is just the beginning for us because we are entering something that we have not yet experienced before. We are in a position to accomplish great things at the Big Ten Championships and are so ready for NCAA tournament. The sky is the limit for us as Gophers. Never satisfied, and ready to fight!
