wThe University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell to 1-8 in the Big Ten and 6-13 overall with a 7-0 loss to 52nd-ranked Purdue today in West Lafayette, Ind. The Boilermakers (8-12, 5-4 Big Ten) won all three doubles matches and six singles matches.
In doubles action, the Golden Gophers narrowly lost all three matches by 9-8 scores. Jane Anderson and Ida Malmberg at No. 1, Lindsay Risebrough and Danielle Mousseau at No. 2, and Marina Bugaenco and Nischela Reddy at No. 3 lost the competitive doubles matches as Purdue jumped out to the 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Boilermakers clinched the team win with three quick wins at Nos. 1, 5 and 6. At No. 1, 75th-ranked Hala Sufi dominated Minnesota's No. 91 Nischela Reddy, 6 -0, 6-1, to drop Reddy's dual record to 11-8 this season (5-4 Big Ten). Reddy is 6-4 vs. ranked opponents this year. Purdue gained the 3-0 lead at No. 6 with Alyssa Rodriguez's 6-2, 6-0 win over Bugaenco. The Boilers clinched the dual with at No. 5 as Amy Walgenbach out-matched Danielle Mousseau, 6-2, 6-3.
Purdue wrapped up the dual with three more wins at Nos. 2-4. At No. 2, Jane Anderson lost the first set 7-5 to PU's Stephanie Wooten, but rebounded in the second with a 6-4 set. In the match tiebreaker, Wooten prevailed 13-11.
The Golden Gophers wrap up the regular season tomorrow at No. 50 Illinois at 11 a.m., in Champaign, Ill. Minnesota at #52 Purdue
