TenThe University of Minnesota Women's Tennis Team defeated Ohio State, 4-3, at the Baseline Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. At 8-1, the Golden Gophers (15-5, 8-1) can claim their first-ever Big Ten regular season Championship tomorrow vs. Penn State. Minnesota finished 1-9 in the league last season.

"I can't say enough about what this team has already accomplished this season," Head Coach Tyler Thomson said. "We look at tomorrow as the finish of our first season and then we'll prepare for the second season, the playoffs. We expect a battle tomorrow against Penn State."

After Ohio State claimed the doubles point, the Golden Gophers responded with four wins in the six singles matches. Junior Angela Buergis clinched the win for Minnesota with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win vs. No. 46 Sadhaf Pervez at No. 1 singles. Both players entered the match with 7-1 records in the Big Ten.

Fellow newcomer Nischela Reddy also improved to 8-1 in the league. Reddy earned Minnesota's first singles win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Lindsay Williams at No. 4. Junior Valeria Vladea defeated the Buckeyes' Erica Fisk at No. 2 in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0. Junior Brandi Watts earned a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles over Emily DeCamilla.

Buergis and Reddy collected Minnesota's lone doubles victory and improved to 6-0 in the Big Ten in the process. The duo is also a combined 16-2 in Big Ten singles action.

The Golden Gophers will face Penn State at 11 a.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center.
