1.MINNESOTA FALLS TO ILLINOIS 6-1 IN WOMEN'S TENNIS
Minnesota's record dropped to 11-6 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten after No. 29 Illinois defeated the Gophers in Big Ten action by a score of 6- 1. Illinois improved to 13-6 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten. This was the second straight loss for the Gophers who will finish out conference play on the road next weekend. The Gophers record with Illinois now stands at 14-16 all-time.
Freshman Valerie Vladea and sophomore Michaela Havelkova paired up to win their 13th match of the season and improve their doubles record to 13-4. They defeated Simone Kung and Michelle Webb of Illinois at the No. 1 doubles position 8-1. However, Illinois came back to win the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Senior Tammy Wang led the Gophers by winning her match in singles play and scoring the only point for Minnesota. She defeated Illinois' Tiffany Eklov 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 4 position. Wang improved her record to 13-9 for the season. In No. 2 singles play, Michaela Havelkova won the first set, but Illinois' Simone Kung came back to win the next two. Kung defeated Havelkova by a score of 5-7, 6-2, (10-5).
The Gophers end the season by traveling to Wisconsin on April 20, followed by a match at Iowa on April 21.
