singleSenior Michaela Havelkova clinched the doubles point and then clinched the dual match with a come-from-behind win in singles as the Golden Gopher Women's Tennis Team defeated Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday. The 38th-ranked Golden Gophers (9-5, 3-1) ended the Wolverines (9-5, 2-2) 12-game home match winning streak.
Havelkova paired with Brandi Watts at No. 3 doubles in a 9-7 win which clinched the doubles point for Minnesota. Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy earned the other doubles victory at No. 2 by the score of 8-3 over Kim Plaushines and Jen Duprez.
Havelkova was not finished as she competed against Plaushines at No. 4 singles. Down 5-1 in the third set and after fighting off two match points, Havelkova rallied for a 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-5 victory which clinched the 4-3 win for Minnesota.
Buergis improved to 4-0 in Big Ten play with a 6-4, 7-6 (1) victory at No. 1 singles over Michelle DaCosta. Reddy defeated Joanne Musgrove at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Minnesota will resume play on Sunday morning with a league match at Michigan State.
