The Hornets opened the dual with a 3-0 doubles showing with Margarita Karnaukhova and Marta Gronowicz setting the tone for the day with an 8-2 win over Minnesota's top duo of A ngela Buergis and Ni schela Reddy (MN), 8-2.
In singles play, Id a Malmberg was the lone Golden Gopher to win a set, taking the opening set in a 6-7, 1-6, (10-4) loss to Roberta Fessenko. Minnesota failed to win more than one game in all of the remaining matches.
The Maroon and Gold faces Fresno State on Thursday and Missouri on Saturday.
