sinThe University of Minnesota Women's Tennis Team defeated Drake, 7-0, at the Baseline Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Gophers (6-3) won all three doubles matches, as well as all six singles matches.
Minnesota opened the match with three doubles wins to capture the team point. Michaela Havelkova and Brandi Watts defeated Drake's Cynthia Skogerboe and Cheen Alkahatib, 9-8 (2) at No. 3 doubles.
Junior Angela Buergis, ranked 69th in the country, improved to 7-2 for the dual meet season, with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Annali de Bruyn at No. 1 singles. Valerie Vladea, Michaela Havelkova, Amy Thomas, Nischela Reddy and Brandi Watts also posted singles victories.
The Golden Gophers will return to Big Ten action next weekend with a match at Iowa on Saturday afternoon.
