Riding a five-match winning streak, Minnesota’s women’s tennis team hosts a pair of matches this weekend, including its Big Ten Opener at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers, who are currently 8-1 overall and ranked 54th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, take on Missouri on Friday at 6 p.m. and Iowa on Sunday at noon. Admission for all home Minnesota tennis matches is free.
Missouri is 8-2 overall and suffered one of its only losses last weekend to Iowa by a 6-1 score. The Hawkeyes are 5-0 and ranked 41st in the country. Sunday’s match will also be Iowa’s Big Ten opener and first road contest.
Freshman Alessandra Ferrazzi leads Minnesota with a 16-5 overall record at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Tijana Koprivica is 14-6 and junior Karina Chiarelli is 13-6. The Gophers have been especially tough in doubles with a 22-5 record in their nine duals, using 17 different combinations.
