2014 Schedule | Gophers Fall to Cowgirls | Gophers Bounce Back, Topple Oregon
This weekend was very important for us! So far, our squad had been doing well this year but we knew this weekend would be tougher playing against two very good teams. With the Big Ten season around the corner, doing well this weekend would give us a good momentum.
We played No. 29 Oklahoma State on Friday. They competed very well from the very first point, and were more aggressive than us at the beginning. We faced a very tough team. We lost the doubles point and were one set down in most of our singles matches. However, none of our players gave up and everyone fought back in their second sets. Our reaction to the situation was good but we had a lot to learn from this match.
On Sunday, everyone was ready to be back on the court and I could not have been more proud of my team. We played a very good Oregon team and every match could have gone either way. Every girl learned from Friday's loss and we were ready to start being "Minnesota Tough" from the very beginning. Starting with doubles, we were much more aggressive, and we looked good! Doubles No. 1 and No. 2 did an amazing job at bringing the W after two tiebreakers. Winning the doubles point was big for us.
During the singles, everyone across the board competed extremely well. Most of the matches were really close but we were able to stay tough, focusing on what we have to do. And it paid off at the end with a 6-1 win over Oregon.
I give a lot of credits to both teams! They all competed very well on the road. It was a fun weekend for us and we became even stronger as a team. I strongly believe we were definitely "Minnesota Tough" on Sunday and, as long as we keep it this way, we have a bright future in front of us! Thanks to everyone who came to support us and we will be back on the court on Friday against Iowa State.
