GThe University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Colorado Sunday afternoon at the Northwest Athletic Club in Bloomington, Minn. The Gophers drop to 3-6 on the spring season.
The Golden Gophers gained the doubles point with two of the three wins. Michaela Havelkova and Valerie Vladea won 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles, while Brandi Watts and Jennifer Howard partnered for an 8-6 win at the No. 3 doubles.
The Gophers started the singles competition strong with two wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Havelkova won 6-3, 6-4 at the top spot, while Vladea won in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2. However, Minnesota would drop the next four single matches for the 4-3 loss.
Next action for the Golden Gophers will be on Feb. 22 as they host Penn State at 6:30 p.m. and Ohio State Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. It will be the second and third Big Ten opponent the Gophers have faced in the spring season. Friday's match will be at the Bloomington Northwest Athletic Club, while Sunday's is set at the Burnsville Athletic Club.
