Minnesota's women's tennis team looks to stay hot this weekend as the Gophers bring a 5-1 record into three non-conference home matches at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers, who are ranked 54th in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, open play by taking on Montana on Fri., Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. It is only the second meeting between the two schools with Minnesota claiming a 5-2 win in the first encounter in 2004. Minnesota coach Tyler Thomson captained the Montana men's team in 1993.
Minnesota will play two matches on Sunday when it takes on Eastern Michigan at 9:30 a.m. and Gustavus Adolphus at 3 p.m. Both teams participated in the Gopher Invitational to open the season Sept. 14-16. Gustavus Adolphus is ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA Division III rankings. Also, Eastern Michigan and Montana will meet on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Freshman Alessandra Ferrazzi leads the Gophers with a 15-4 overall record, including a 4-1 mark in dual matches at No. 1 singles. She has also teamed with Karina Chiarelli for a 13-3 doubles ledger. Chiarelli is 12-6 for the season, including 3-1 at No. 2 singles.
