OThe Minnesota women's tennis team lost to Tulsa, 5-2, on Saturday but rebounded to defeat Colorado, 6-1, on Sunday. Both matches were played in Boulder, Colo. Minnesota is now 2-1 on the season.
On Saturday, Minnesota won the doubles point but only one singles match, as freshman Brandi Watts defeated Mariana Barrios at the No. 6 position, 7-5, 6-1. Tulsa defeated the Golden Gophers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
On Sunday, Minnesota again won the doubles point but this time added five wins out of six singles matches. Watts was Minnesota's only singles player to win both singles matches, as she defeated Miranda Evans, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Valerie Vladea defeated Dominique Lemperle, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Michaela Havelkova defeated Lia Dimingo at No. 3, 7-6, 7-6. Minnesota also got singles wins from senior Tammy Wang at No. 4 and junior Jennifer Howard at No. 5.
The No. 1 doubles team of Vladea and Havelkova won both their matches over the weekend, as did the No. 3 doubles team of Watts and sophomore Amy Thomas.
