Minnesota To Face Team That Ended Gophers' Season
On Saturday, Minnesota will face Tulsa, the team that defeated Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Tulsa defeated the Gophers, 5-3, May 13, 2000, in Tulsa, Okla.
This is the second consecutive year Minnesota plays such a match. Last season, the Golden Gophers played San Diego, which defeated Minnesota in the 1999 tournament in Los Angeles. Minnesota won the rematch, 7-2, in San Diego, on March 30, 2000.

Minnesota's match against Drake, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3, was cancelled due to poor weather. The Golden Gophers opened the 2001 season with a win against Richmond, 5-2, Jan. 26 in the Minnesota Court Classic. The Golden Gophers opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. The Gophers then won four of six singles matches to earn the victory.
About Tulsa
Tulsa is 3-0 this season after wins over New Mexico, Oral Roberts and Southwest Missouri State. Tulsa advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships a year ago, where the Hurricane lost to No. 14 Northwestern, 5-0.
About Colorado
Colorado is 2-2 on the season after winning its last two games by identical 5-2 scores. The Buffaloes lost to Ohio State, 5-2, and were swept by Marquette, a team Minnesota will face Feb. 25.

Minnesota has a week off before continuing an eight-match road trip. The Golden Gophers will next be in action in Milwaukee, Wis., facing Houston on Feb. 24 and Marquette on Feb. 25. Minnesota will next be home March 23, when the Gophers host Michigan State.
