NThe 40th-ranked University of Minnesota women's tennis team lost 6-1 today to No. 29 Georgia Tech in the third-place dual of the Minnesota Court Classic at the Baseline Tennis Center. Earlier today, No. 14 William & Mary downed No. 75 Rice, 7-0, to capture the Classic title.
The Yellowjackets swept the doubles matches, withstanding Minnesota comeback attempts at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. GT's Kelly Anderson and Sekita Grant dispatched UM's 26th-ranked duo of Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy, 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, Lyndsay Shosho and Maria Nieto broke a 4-4 tie and thwarted Lindsay Risebrough and Ida Malmberg, 8-6.
In singles play, Georgia Tech took five of six matches with the lone Maroon and Gold victory coming at the No. 1 spot. Buergis picked up the win, dropping Shosho, 7-5, 6-3. The Yellowjackets won the remainder of the singles matches in straight sets.
