Riding a 2-0 record after a successful doubleheader last weekend, the Minnesota women’s tennis team now looks to competition in College Station, Texas as part of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Tied for the No. 41 rank in the most recent poll, the Gophers earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament. Joining them are No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 30 Arizona, and No. 54 North Texas.
Of the four participating teams, Texas A&M is the only one that boasts individually ranked singles players. The Auggies are led by Christina Sanchez, who, at No. 3 in the nation, is the highest ranked athlete participating in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. She is joined by teammates Christine Stancu (No. 45) and Sun Wen (No. 82).
While they may not show rank among their rosters, Arizona, Minnesota, and North Texas have all seen tough competition in important matches before. All three qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.
Minnesota begins competition tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against Arizona. Follow along with live scoring and video here.
