NortThe Minnesota vs. Northern Iowa women's tennis match, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., tonight at the Baseline Tennis Center, has been cancelled due to inclement weather and poor travel conditions. The Northern Iowa vs. Eastern Michigan match, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., on Saturday has also been cancelled. The Golden Gophers will open the 2005 season against Eastern Michigan tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., at the Baseline Tennis Center.

The 2004-05 Golden Gopher women's tennis team looks to begin the spring season on a high note after finishing the 2003-04 campaign with a 3-19 record (1-9 Big Ten). With the departure of two-time All-Big Ten performer Angela Buergis, the Maroon and Gold will turn to a roster heavy on talent and youth. Minnesota's top returning players this season are junior captain Nischela Reddy, and sophomores Ida Malmberg and Lindsay Risebrough. The Golden Gophers welcome a strong freshmen class of Edina's Jane Anderson, Danielle Mousseau of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Marina Bugaenco of Moldova.

Next weekend, Minnesota hosts No. 27 Oregon, No. 68 Missouri and Boston College in the Minnesota Court Classic on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 29-30, at the Baseline Tennis Center
