After a strong run, the University of Minnesota women’s tennis team had all remaining participants knocked out during the round of 16 at the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Lawrence, Kan.
Caroline Ryba was in both the round of 16 in singles and doubles. In singles, she was faced with a familiar foe, Zoe Douglas of Iowa. Douglas, the No. 6 seed, was able to defeat Ryba, the No. 13 seed, 6-1, 6-1.
Ryba was also looking to advance in the doubles bracket, but had another top opponent in the No. 2 seeded pair of Babic/Blanco of Oklahoma State. Ryba/Hart, the No. 9 seed, were defeated 8-2 in the round of 16 match.
In other notable matches, Vargas was able to advance to the semifinals in the consolation singles bracket after a three set victory over Oleksandra Doroshenko 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
