Wildcat Invitational today in Evanston, Ill. Only one round of singles remained as the eight Gopher athletes gathered at the Combe Tennis Center. Three of eight became successful, earning wins for the Minnesota effort.
Natallia Pintusava got her first win of the tournament, defeating Wisconsin’s Chypyha (6-3, 6-3) in the top draw to end her play on a high note. Julia Courter and Aria Lambert also notched victories on the day. Courter faced another Badger, Burich, and prevailed 6-2, 6-2. Lambert played against Western Michigan’s King and easily turned in a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Jessika Mozia, who previously qualified for the green flight finals after going 2-0 in the opening day of action, fell 6-2, 6-2 in her event finals to DePaul’s Fisher.
Select members of the women’s tennis team will participate in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships which are scheduled to begin on Oct. 18.
