Gopher Invitational Brackets (Updated)

The University of Minnesota women's tennis team came out of the gate strong in its first play of the fall season Friday as it opened Gopher Invitational play at the Baseline Tennis Center. The host Gophers won four of five first-round doubles matches and went 16-4 in singles play, including a perfect 10-0 in first-round matches.

The day began with doubles and the Gophers won the first four matches that finished. In the Maroon Flight, duos of Jessika Mozia and Kendall Heitzner and Aria Lambert and Kelsey Frechette won in convincing fashion, taking victories of 8-2 and 8-1, respectively. In the same draw. Maja Vujic and Yuliana Umanets won 8-6 to become the third Minnesota tandem to reach the quarterfinals.

In the Gold Flight, Natallia Pintusava and Julia Courter eked out a 9-7 win over Christina Colarossi and Diana Tokar, but Fion Davies and Jenny Blackburne of South Dakota State held off the Gophers' Paula Rincon Otero and Tereza Brichacova 9-8 (12) to give Minnesota its only doubles loss of the day.

All 10 Gophers won in the Round of 16 in singles play and six of the 10 went on to advance to the semifinal round in their respective flights.
