Gopher Invitational Brackets (Updated)
The University of Minnesota women's tennis team came out of the gate strong in its first play of the fall season Friday as it opened Gopher Invitational play at the Baseline Tennis Center. The host Gophers won four of five first-round doubles matches and went 16-4 in singles play, including a perfect 10-0 in first-round matches.
The day began with doubles and the Gophers won the first four matches that finished. In the Maroon Flight, duos of Jessika Mozia and Kendall Heitzner and Aria Lambert and Kelsey Frechette won in convincing fashion, taking victories of 8-2 and 8-1, respectively. In the same draw. Maja Vujic and Yuliana Umanets won 8-6 to become the third Minnesota tandem to reach the quarterfinals.
In the Gold Flight, Natallia Pintusava and Julia Courter eked out a 9-7 win over Christina Colarossi and Diana Tokar, but Fion Davies and Jenny Blackburne of South Dakota State held off the Gophers' Paula Rincon Otero and Tereza Brichacova 9-8 (12) to give Minnesota its only doubles loss of the day.
All 10 Gophers won in the Round of 16 in singles play and six of the 10 went on to advance to the semifinal round in their respective flights.
Brichacova downed South Dakota State's Florencia Magni and Wisconsin's Lauren Chypytha in the "M" flight. In the "U" flight, three of the four semifinalists will be wearing the Maroon and Gold Saturday as Lambert, Rincon Otero, and Mozia all won both of their matches Friday. Rincon Otero and Lambert will play each other.
Also advancing to the third round on the winner's side of the flight were Minnesota freshman Vujic in the Gold Flight and Gopher sophomore Kelsey Frechette in the Maroon Flight.
There were a total of 93 matches played at the Baseline Tennis Center Friday, 74 of which were singles matches. Doubles play is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and singles is expected to pick back up at noon.

Gophers Hand Out Team Awards at Banquet
The University of Minnesota women’s tennis team held their team banquet Sunday where they handed out team awards and celebrated the season.
Ryba Earns All-Big Ten Honors
Caroline Ryba was named to the All-Big Ten Team for the second time in her collegiate career and was also named the team's Sportsmanship Award recipient.
Comeback Falls Short for Gophers
No. 8 seeded Minnesota fell in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament to No. 9 seeded Nebraska, 4-3, after falling in the final set.
