In our first edition of Meet the Newcomers, GopherSports.com talks with freshman Brittany Horn about her Minneapolis experiences so far. She hails from Appleton, Wisc. and is currently planning to major in marketing and business.
GopherSports.com – With your first semester is coming to a close as finals approach, what have you enjoyed most about being on campus?
Brittany Horn – I have enjoyed being on campus because it is located in a bigger city that offers an endless amount of activities, connections and opportunities.
GS – Growing up Appleton, Wisc., what led you to choose the University of Minnesota?
BH - I chose the University of Minnesota due to the academic excellence of the University and the opportunity I was offered to swim for the Gophers.
GS – We are at the half-way point of the season. What are you most looking forward to in the coming months for Gopher swimming and diving squad?
BH - I look forward to witnessing my teammates compete at Big Tens and watching them excel either in swimming or diving. I know as a team we have worked extremely hard and I truly believe it will be shown in our results.
GS – Can you tell us a little about your pre-meet routine or superstitions you have.
BH – My only pre-meet routine I have is that I eat a large breakfast before prelims and will eat another large breakfast for lunch, if there are finals.
GS – When and how did you start swimming?
BH – I started off like everyone else, basic swim lessons around the age of five. And my mom decided to give me an ultimatum between gymnastics and swimming, which ultimately, she chose for me since she knew I wasn’t the most graceful person.
GS – So if you were trapped on an elevator all day, which teammate would you choose to be stuck with?
BH – Patricia Van Law because I know I can count on her to help us get out of there. She’s a genius so I would trust Patty with my life.
