spotThe University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving team competed in the first day of the Georgia Invite, today, holding a third-place finish with a score of 198. Host Georgia holds the top spot with a score of 376, while University of California-Berkley is in second with 244 points. The Gophers continue the Georgia Invite, tomorrow and Sunday.
The divers represented Minnesota well, placing first and fourth overall in the 3-meter event. Jessica Livingston added a first-place score of 500.80 and added 20 points to the Gophers' score. Abbie Bowden finished fourth with a score of 459.55.
Minnesota started the swimming events with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay with a provisional qualifying time of 1:32.41. Katy Coombe, Sarah Perrott, Jennifer Hasling and Sara Vine. Georgia added the top time of 1:31.26 for the winning relay.
Valerie Tukey added a fifth-place finish in the 500 free, while Kate Hardt placed eighth overall in the same event. Abby Ruess and Sarah Solfelt placed 14th and 16th in the 200 IM. Ruess added a time of 2:06.73, while Solfelt clocked a time of 2:09.24.
The Gophers had three swimmers earn points in the 50 free event. Coombe finished sixth overall with a provisional qualifying time of 23.29 and had 13 points. Perrott added a 10th-place finish with a provisional time of 23.41 and earned seven points. Hasling chipped in four points with a time of 23.67.
The Gophers finished the night with a sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay. Katie Wind, Julia Quinn, Erin O'Neil and Coombe combined for a time of 3:46.54.
The Gophers will start tomorrow's competition with the 200 medley relay. The Gophers will also compete in the 400 IM, the 100 fly, the 200 free and the 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke events. The 1-meter diving action will also be included in tomorrow's events.
