The Gopher women's swimming and diving team is really turning some heads and impressing a lot of people with blazing fast times and a great team score. Through two days of the Minnesota Invitational, the Gopher women are in second place trailing only 14th-ranked Wisconsin. Minnesota is followed by 21st-ranked Missouri and 16th-ranked Notre Dame.
The strong Minnesota relays are shining through once again. In the 200-yard medley relay, Minnesota placed three teams in the top seven. Placing third was the team of Megan Moore, Keri Hehn, Sarah Bohlsen, and Dana Baum with a season best time of 1:46.11. In the 800-yard freestyle relay the team of Baum, Jennifer Warmington, Kate Hardt, and Kristin Rygg came in with a time of 7:39.53 and placed fifth. The Gophers also placed eighth in the event.
Juleen Rodakowski and Kate Hardt placed seventh and eighth respectively in the 400-yard individual medley. Rodakowski's time of 4:29.63 is a team and season best.
In the 100-yard butterfly Rodakowski placed third with a season and team best time of 56.50. Colleen Morgan took seventh in 57.61, which is also a season best time.
Dana Baum swam a great 200-yard freestyle to capture second in the event. Baum cam in with a time of 1:50.36 which is a season and team best, and also a B standard time which provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships.
Keri Hehn won the 100-yard breaststroke in impressive fashion. Hehn swam the event in 1:03.02, which is a B standard time, as well as team and season best. Placing fourth for the Gophers was Katie Proell. Proell was followed by Melissa Schold a> in eighth, and Lauren Guzauskas and Bridget McCoy , both in ninth.
In the 100-yard backstroke, the Gophers placed eighth. Megan Moore swam a 57.76. Katie Wind placed 12th in the event.
In diving, Shannon Jackson placed eighth on the 3- meter board in a very competitive field. Jackson's score is a team and season best.
"We are beating teams that beat us last year, and really coming together as a group," Coach Jean Freeman commented.
