WeeThe Big Ten Conference has announced that junior Gopher diver Rebecca Cornthwaite has been named the Big Ten diver of the Week for her performance against Iowa State over the past weekend. It is the first honor of her career as a member of the Minnesota women's swimming and diving team.
Cornthwaite captured first-place finishes in both diving events, setting a new meet record in the 3-meter diving with a total of 394.83. Cornthwaite, a 2003 honorable mention All-American won the 1-meter diving with 276.68 points. Shannon Jackson held the old 3-meter diving record, set in 2002.
The women's swimming and diving team will take the week off from competition and return to action against North Carolina and North Dakota at the University Aquatic Center Nov. 7-8. Friday's competition will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's is scheduled for a noon start.
