tIn their first appearance of the season, the women's swimming and diving team competed in an Intrasquad Meet on Saturday, October 13 at the University Aquatic Center. Taking nine of sixteen events, the maroon team conquered the gold team, 157 to 139.
Leading the maroon team was junior freestyle swimmer Dana Baum, who won the 200-yard free (1:53.49), 50-yard free (24.29) and the 500-yard free (5:03.76). Junior Keri Hehn took first place in the 100-yard (1:04.90) and 200-yard (2:20.34) breaststroke for the maroon team, while newcomer Katy Coombe won the 100-yard freestyle in just 53.98 seconds.
On the gold team junior Holly Hanneman won both the 1-meter (241.30) and 3-meter (260.20) diving. Senior captain Jinny Stemstad took first in the 200-yard (2:07.20) backstroke and the 200-yard IM (2:10.63).
The Gophers compete next at their annual Alumni Meet on Friday, October 19 at 6 p.m. at the University Aquatic Center.
