The Big Ten Conference Weekly Awards were announced Tuesday and Minnesota earned two of the three honors. Breanne Siwicki received Freshman of the Week while Maggie Keefer was named Diver of the Week. Both accolades were awarded after Minnesota's winning performance against Arizona State University last weekend Oct. 5, 2013.
Siwicki, a freshman, debuted in her first collegiate dual meet by claiming a first-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:08.89. This honor marks her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award.
The last Minnesota Freshman of the Week was Marina Spadoni on Feb. 12, 2013.
Senior Keefer placed first in the three-meter dive and placed second in the one-meter dive. She earned scores of 321.23 in the three-meter and 293.18 in the one-meter, both high enough scores to qualify her for the NCAA Zone Diving standards. This award was Keefer's 11th Diver of the Week honor in her career, the last earned was Feb. 12, 2013.
