Christine Jennings Swims Her Way Onto U.S. Open Water National Team

University of Minnesota freestyler Christine Jennings competed at the United States Open Water Nationals, Sunday on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. Jennings, who will enter her senior season with the Golden Gophers, finished third overall in the competition and will become a member of the U.S. National Team.

Jennings competed in the 10K on Sunday, which consisted of four laps at 2.5K each. She finished third overall in a time of 2:05.15.094 for third overall. Kirsten Groome won the event in a time of 2:03.25.677, while Eva Fabian was second in a time of 2:03.37.824. On the men's side Gopher men's swimmer Michael Daup finished 10th overall in 2:01.04.075. Fran Crippen won the men's 10K in 1:58.41.449.

Jennings was a member of the U.S World Championship team in Seville, Spain. Jennings raced in the 5K event in Seville following the Gophers' season. Jennings earned All-America honors in the 500 free and the 800 free relay last year after helping the Gophers win the 2008 Big Ten Championships in February.
