Sophomore Jenny Shaughnessy led the University of Minnesota swimmers at the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships, which is being held Aug. 1-5 in Irvine, Calif. Shaughnessy set a school record in the 200 individual medley in the first day of the championships.
Shaughnessy clocked a time of 2:19.96 to set a new long course record for Minnesota. Shaughnessy's time was also good enough for the Olympic Trial time, which is 2:20.49. Christine Jennings, who swam with the Boulder Swimming Club, earned an Olympic Trial time of 4:15.77 and placed 16th overall in the consolation final with a time of 4:24.85.
Competition continues today as Jenny Hasling will compete in the 100 back, while Meredith McCarthy and Shaughnessy will compete in the 200 free.
