Three Gophers Win Events at Speedo Series

Former Gopher Stacy Busack and Gopher juniors Molly Belk and Jillian Tyler each won an event in the first day of the Speedo Championships, running July 22-25th at the University Aquatic Center.

Busack dominated the 100 freestyle when she won both the prelims and the finals. Busack won the 100 free in an Open qualifying time of 56.20, while Marissa Davies followed close behind and finished third overall (56.83) and Megan Braun in eighth (58.06). Like Busack, Tyler led Minnesota Aquatics when she won both the 200 breaststroke prelims and finals. Tyler, who held a prelim time of 2:35.38, coasted to a victory in an Open qualifying time of 2:30.79. She finished nearly three seconds ahead of second-place finisher Abigail Duncan, who touched the wall in 2:33.12. Kimberly Kazika placed third overall in 2:37.79.

After finishing second in the 200 fly prelims, Molly Belk won the event in an Open qualifying time of 2:15.69. Kelsey Ridder won the consolation final in 2:18.89. Incoming freshmen Annalise Colton and Lauren Weis also competed in the event. Colton finished 11th overall in 2:19.46, while Weis chipped in a time of 2:20.54 for a 17th-place finish.
