University of Minnesota freestyle swimmer Yuen Kobayashi earned three top-six finishes at the 2007 Speedo Grand Challenge, held in Irvine California, over the weekend. Kobayashi, the Big Ten champion in the 1,650 free and the 800 free relay, competed in just three events over the course of the meet. Kobyashi finished as high as second in the 800-meter freestyle event. Kobayashi touched the wall in a career-best time of 8:47.49. She followed with a third-place showing in the 400 free with a time of 4:18.29 and sixth in the 200 free in 2:04.24.

Along with her All-Big Ten honors in the 1,650 free and the 800 free relay, Kobayashi was an All-American in the 500 free and in the 800 free relay when Minnesota hosted the national championships earlier this year. Kobayashi was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2006 and was named the team's most valuable.
