McCrady Qualifies for World University Games
May 22, 2013
University of Minnesota diver Sarah McCrady will represent the United States at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, from July 6-17, USA Diving News announced Wednesday. The senior will compete in the 10 meter synchronized diving event with Purdue’s Mackenzie Tweardy.
The pair qualified for the team after posting a score of 519.66 at the 2013 USA Diving FINA World Championships and World University Games Trials held in Tallahassee, Fla., from May 15-20.
McCrady will be joining her Minnesota swimming teammates Derek Toomey and Kyler Van Swol and former Gopher swimmer Ashley Steenvoorden at the World University Games, as the trio qualified for the event based upon their performance at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships. Minnesota’s head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach Kelly Kremer will also serve as an assistant coach for the WUG swimming team.
Another Gopher alumnus, Christine Jennings, qualified for the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, after winning the women’s 10K at the 2013 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships on Lower Castaic Lake.
The women’s 10K became a five-person race with 500m to go. As Jennings’ competitors drifted right, she veered left and was able to outkick the competition to the finish line. She finished with an official time of 2:02:14.336.
