University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving co-head coaches Kelly Kremer and Terry Nieszner have announced that Minneapolis, Minn., native Avery Michienzi has been accepted to Minnesota and will join the Gopher program in the fall of 2007.

Jeff Sanders and Neil Anderson coached Michienzi, who is a member of the South High School swim team. In 2006, Michienzi earned all-state honors and finished fifth at the Minnesota State High School Championships in the 100 breaststroke. A stellar student, Michienzi is also a member of the National Honor Society.

"Avery is a student athlete that we really got to know and watch closely this year,” Kremer and Nieszner said. “We believe she has the desire to help our team academically and athletically at both the Big Ten Conference and NCAA levels, and she certainly has the talent to do so."
