Co-head coaches Kelly Kremer and Terry Nieszner have announced that Andrea Hanson from Edina, Minn., has been accepted to the University of Minnesota and will join the women’s swimming and diving team in the fall semester.

Hailing from Edina High School, Hanson was a multiple finalist at the Minnesota State High School State Championships in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke events. In 2005, Hanson was the runner-up in the 200 IM and was also an All-American consideration. Hanson has excelled in the classroom as well as a member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student. Along with swimming at the high school level, Hanson also swims for the Edina Swim Club with her coach and former Gopher Jeff Rodriguez. She plans to major in business at Minnesota.

"Terry and I are so pleased to have Andrea join our program,” co-head coach Kelly Kremer said. “One of our top priorities each year is to keep our state’s best student athletes at home, and we feel we accomplished this. Andrea provides us with needed help in the IM’s and backstrokes, and she will be asked to contribute immediately at the Big Ten Conference level.”
