Minnesota’s Jillian Tyler has continued her swimming success after winning the NCAA title in the 100-yard breaststroke by returning to her homeland and winning the 100-meter breaststroke crown at the Canadian World Championships Trials in Victoria on Thursday.

A Canadian Olympian in 2008 and native of Calgary, Tyler took the gold in a personal-best time of 1 minute, 7.56 seconds, the fifth fastest time in the world this year. The victory earns her a spot on the Canadian Team for the FINA World Aquatic Championships in Shanghai, China, this July.

“I’ve wanted to go under 1:08 for a couple of years now,” said Tyler. “It’s been a little bit of rocky road since 2008 but after making the team for the Pan Pacific Championships last year I’ve been riding the momentum since then.”
