Schiffler Places 15th On 1-Meter To Lead Gophers At NCAA Zone Championships

University of Minnesota sophomore diver Erica Schiffler finished 15th this afternoon in the one-meter diving event at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich. She led a contingent of four Gophers competing on the second day of competition. Schiffler reached the finals for the second straight day, also placing 15th on the three-meter on Friday.

Schiffler posted a score of 239.75 in the preliminaries and followed with a finals score of 239.05 to finish with a cumulative tally of 478.80. "Erica was very consistent today on both lists," diving coach Jason Baumann said. "She has finaled in both events here, something she didn't do last year. She has shown great improvement."

Sophomore Brianna Hubbard finished 28th with a score of 208.95 in the tightly bunched field of 45 divers. Freshman Alexandra Barstad, who placed 11th in the three-meter event on Friday, placed 36th with a score of 199.65 and freshman Jacqueline Schroeder placed 38th with a score of 197.40.

Indiana's Christina Luokas won the event with a score of 652.10.

Schiffler, Hubbard, Barstad and Schroeder will join senior captain Holly Jakits in the platform diving event tomorrow that begins at 11 a.m.
