CHRISTOFERSON, BAUM QUALIFY FOR NCAA MEET

SwMinnesota senior Katy Christoferson and sophomore Dana Baum have qualified for the 2001 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, to be held March 15-17 at Long Island, N.Y.

Christoferson, a three-time Big Ten champion and Minnesota's school-record holder in both individual medley events, is seeded 10th in both the 200 and 400 IM events. She finished eighth in the 400 IM at the 2000 NCAA meet and eanred All-American status. Christoferson is also seeded 11th in the 100 butterfly. Baum has qualified for her first NCAA meet, and is seeded 23rd in the 200 freestyle, 23rd in the 500 free and 24th in the 1650 free. She has finished in the top eight in the Big Ten in all three distance freestyle events in both of her years at Minnesota.

Junior Jinny Smedstad barely missed making the NCAA field, and is the third alternate. Divers will qualify for the NCAA meet through NCAA Zone Diving competition, to be held March 8-10 in Indianapolis.
