GOPHERS CAP OFF HOME SEASON THIS WEEKEND
The No. 8 University of Minnesota women’s swimming and diving team hosts its final home meet of the season, the Minnesota Challenge, Feb. 8-9. Action begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a noon and 6 p.m. starts on Saturday at the University Aquatic Center. Both days will have live results on gophersports.com
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
The Gophers will recognize their senior class during the Minnesota Challenge. The Maroon and Gold will honor seniors Roxane Akradi, Erin Forster and Sharon Leary as well as their families will be recognized at the beginning of the Saturday evening session (5:50 p.m.).
The University of Minnesota welcomes nine additional teams to the Minnesota Challenge this weekend. Competing at the meet will be College of St. Benedict, Minnesota State University, Mankato, Northern State, St. Cloud State, South Dakota State, St. John’s University, Stevens Point, University of Minnesota-Morris and the University of South Dakota.
MINNESOTA CHALLENGE LAST YEAR
In the final tune-up meet for the Big Ten Championships, the No. 21 Minnesota women's swimming and diving team won seven events on the final day of the Minnesota Challenge at University Aquatic Center. The meet was not team scored. The Gophers won nine events in the two-day competition. Christine Jennings, Jenny Shaughnessy and Amy Funk won events as well as former Gophers Jennifer Hasling, Krista Kezbers and Valerie Tukey.
ON THE STARTING BLOCKS
The Gophers hope to be in the mix for the Big Ten Championships, Feb. 21-23, hosted by Ohio State University. Prelims begin at 11 a.m., followed by diving at 1 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m. (ET).
