Minnesota captured titles in all five events that were contested on Friday night at the Minnesota Challenge at the University Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Abbey Staatz won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.66 seconds after helping the Gophers' 200 free relay to victory in a time of 1:35.24. Other members of the relay were Melissa Nelson, Monica Radecke and Brianna Chu.
The Gophers went 1-2 in the 500 free with Marissa Davies winning in a time of 4:55.08, followed by Lissa Tommerdahl in second in a time of 4:57.90.
Minnesota also grabbed first and second places in the 200 individual medley and the 50 free. Elizabeth Weitz won the title in the 200 IM clocking a time of 2:04.39, with Danielle James claiming runner-up honors in 2:05.85. Nelson finished second in the 50 free in a time of 23.92.
Nelson, who led off the 200 free relay, swam the first leg of the winning 400 medley relay as well. The relay of Nelson, Avery Michienzi, Jenna Howenstein and Radecke notched a winning time of 3:54.20.
The second of three sessions of the Minnesota Challenge begins on Saturday at noon.
