Pack the Pool • Friday, January 24th is the annual “Pack the Pool” event, make sure to join us for a fun home meet featuring free admission, Goldy, face-painting and a free t-shirt to the first 100 fans!
Matchups • Minnesota claims the faster top times in all events in the schedule for the meet on Friday and Saturday.
For freestyle, Tori Simenec’s 19.05 beats N.C. State’s 22.90. Minnesota’s Laura Votava’s 100-yard free time of 48.94 is faster than the Wolfpack’s best (50.30). Junior Kiera Janzen holds the top time spot in the 200-yard, 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle events. Her times consist of 1:45.43, 4:40.13 and 9:52 respectively. Comparing to North Carolina’s times of 1:50.83, 4:53.80 and 10:06.54.
Tess Behren’s backstroke top times of 52.91 in the 100-yard event and 1:55.83 in the 200-yard are faster than N.C. State’s top seeds.
Kierra Smith’s time of 1:00.63 in the 100-yard breaststroke beats the Wolfpack’s. Smith also has an edge in the 200-yard breast with a time of 2:06.43 in comparison to North Carolina State’s top time of 2:18.01. Rebecca Weiland’s 100-yard butterfly top time of 52.42 is over a second faster than the Wolfpack’s 53.96.
For butterfly in the 200-yard event, Minnesota’s Tori Simenec has a current top time of 1:57.63, which is over four seconds faster than the opponent N.C. State.
For the individual medley events, Kierra Smith’s 1:57.80 in the 200-yard IM clocks in almost five seconds faster than North Carolina State. In the 400-yard IM, Minnesota’s Breanne Siwicki has an impressive 4:13.40, which is nearly ten seconds faster than anyone in the Wolfpack.
For diving, the Gopher Women’s odds look good. For 1 meter diving, top scores of all five Minnesota women are higher than the top N.C. State diver. Senior Maggie Keefer leads both teams in the 1 meter with a 318.52. For 3 meter diving, Gophers Maggie Keefer (342.85), Sarah McCrady (336.15) and Jessica Ramberg (303.61) are greater than the Wolfpack’s best 3 meter score of 288.45
Ranks • The Gopher Women are ranked No. 12 according to NCAA, falling two spots from their past ranking of No. 10 despite yet another win for the undefeated team against Hawaii. On January 11, 2014 the team’s record improved to 6-0, 3-0 in the B1G Conference. North Carolina State is not ranked.
