The Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday that University of Minnesota freshman Lauren Votava was named the Big Ten Women's Swimming Freshman of the Week for her performance in the Gophers' dual at Hawaii on Saturday.
Votava posted three first-place finishes and one third-place effort in Minnesota's dual meet victory on the road. She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.58), 100-yard freestyle (50.69) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.91), while placing third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.23).
The weekly honor is the second Votava's career, as she also earned the honor on Oct. 9. Minnesota's last freshman of the week was Kierra Smith (Nov. 13, 2012).
