Freshman Mackenzie Padington collected her second career Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the Big Ten Conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Minnesota men’s and women’s swimming and diving team used solid showings in their home pool to pick up a pair of Big Ten conference wins
Following impressive performances in the Gophers victory over Florida State, Padington earned Big Ten Women's Swimmer and Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Big Ten Conference office Wednesday afternoon.
The season opener came down to one-one hundredth of a second for the No. 17 Minnesota women's swimming and diving team who edged their way past No. 23 Florida State, 153.5-146.5. The No. 21 Golden Gopher men's swim and diving team fell short of an upset over No. 20. Florida State falling 179-121.
Looking to pick up right where they left off, the Gophers will strive to continue their success in the water throughout the 2017-18 campaign.
2017-18 Freshman Season: Finished in second in the 1000-yard free (9:50.60), first in the 200-yard free (1:46.60), and second in the 500-yard free (4:51.77) at the Triple Dual against Northwestern and Purdue • took fourth place in the 200-yard free (1:52.21) and first in the 100-yard free (51.98) vs. Hawai'i and Drury • Placed first in the 500-yard free (4:38.54), first in the 200-yard free (1:44.15), and second in the 100-yard free (48.45) at the Minnesota Invitational • took sixth in the 500-yard free (4:50.11) and seventh in the 100-yard free (51.39) at the Quad Dual vs. Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin • earned a first place finish in the 1000-yard free (9:53.22), a third place finish in the 50-yard free (23.47), and another first place finish in the 100-yard free (50.38) vs. the University of Iowa • finished first in both the 200-yard free (1:46.85) and in the 500-yard free (4:46.77) against Florida State
