Gophers Open Up Season with Split of Florida State

The season opener came down to one-one hundredth of a second for the No. 17 Minnesota women’s swimming and diving team who edged their way past No. 23 Florida State, 153.5-146.5. The No. 21 Golden Gopher men’s swim and diving team fell short of an upset over No. 20. Florida State falling 179-121.

PRONUNCIATION:



2017-18 Junior Season: Placed third in the 50-yard free (23.16), tied for fifth in the 100-yard fly (54.48), and fourth in the 200-yard fly (2:01.41) in the Minnesota Invitational. • Took fifth in the 200-yard fly (2:06.11) and fifth in the 100-yard fly (56.07) against the University of Iowa.  Finished fifth in the 50-yard free (24.10) and third in the 100-yard fly (56.33) against Florida State.

2016-17 Sophomore Season: Academic All-Big Ten teamearned two second-place finishes at the Minnesota Invitational: 50-yard free (24.28) and 100-yard free (51.47) • notched two first-place finishes at the Jean Freeman Invitational: 50-yard free (23.37) and 100-yard fly (54.70) • earned first place in the 50-yard back in 27.73 at the Minnesota Challenge • completed the 50-yard free in 23.16, earning 31st place, at the 2017 Big Ten Championships • finished in 26th place in the 100-yard free with a 50.14 at the 2017 Big Ten Championships • finished in 21st place in the 100-yard fly with a 53.99 at the 2017 Big Ten Championships.

2015-16 Freshman Season:
First-year letterwinner • Relay alternate for Minnesota at the 2016 NCAA Championships • At the 2016 Big Ten Championships, Grobe placed 19th in the 100 fly, 32nd in the 100 free and 39th in the 50 free • Recorded five top-five finishes for Minnesota as a rookie • Grobe collected gold in the 200 free and 100 fly in the Minnesota win at North Dakota • Made her collegiate debut at Florida State.

High School: 2015 graduate of Chanhassen High School • A-Honor Roll all four years of high school • Letter winner in swimming, diving, Key Club, DECA and Academics • Coached by Kristen Nicholson, Kate Lundsten and Kristen Nicholson for swimming • Coached by mother, Joy Grobe for both diving and golf • Named All-Conference for swimming 2009-2014 • All-State for swimming 2010-2014 • State Champion 2011-2014 • 2013 Section Swimmer of the Year • EXCEL Award winner • Second-place at DECA State Competition • Top-20 Finalist at the DECA International Career Development Conference • Competed for Bearpath Country Club Swim Team (2001-2011) and Aquajets Swim Club (2006-2015).
