LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four student-athletes from the Minnesota softball program were named to the NFCA Great Lakes All-Region teams, as announced by the NFCA Thursday morning.
Sophomores Kendyl Lindaman and Amber Fiser earned first-team honors while freshman Ellee Jensen earned second-team and MaKenna Partain collected third-team honors.
Lindaman, the Big Ten Player of the Year, earns her second-straight first team honors. Lindaman currently boasts a .368 batting average with a .840 slugging percentage and has driven in a team-best 50 runs. Having collected 30 extra base hits, 19 of which are home runs, Lindaman is one home run shy of tying the Minnesota single-season record. Her long ball mark currently ranks eighth in the nation and second in the Big Ten.
Fiser proved to be one of the top pitchers in the Big Ten this season. Fiser earns her first-career Great Lakes All-Region honors posting a 1.59 ERA and a 26-9 record. In 228.1 innings of work Fiser has allowed 61 walks, 64 runs, 52 earned runs and her opponents his a mere .188 against her. Fiser has recorded the second most strikeouts in the big Ten with 230 which also ranks 19th in the nation. Last week Fiser was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team.
Jensen is on pace to become just the second freshman in program history to hit over .400. Hitting in the nine-hole the majority of this season, Jensen boasts a team-best .411 batting average. One of four Gophers to start in all 54 games, Jensen holds a .438 slugging percentage, .466 on-base percentage and has swiped 10 bags. Last week Jensen was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team as well as the inaugural All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
Partain for the second-consecutive season earns third-team accolades. A consistent starter on the right side of the infield, Partain holds a team-second best .382 batting average. The All-Big Ten First Teamer has a team-best five triples accompanied by 12 doubles and seven home runs. With a .635 slugging percentage and .454 on-base percentage. On the base paths she has stolen 11 bases on 12 attempts.
The Gophers are set to begin the postseason at the Seattle Regional this weekend where they will open up against Texas on Friday, May 18 at 8 p.m. CT. The opening round game can be viewed live on ESPN. Washington is the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will face Boise State at 10:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
