Minnesota vs. Pacific
Minnesota vs. Oregon State The Golden Gopher softball team (9-9) was defeated by No. 24 Pacific, 12-0, and No. 20 Oregon State, 5-0, at the Worth Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. Minnesota will look to rebound on Sunday against Boston College. The contest against Pacific marked the 800th career game for Golden Gopher co-head coach Lisa Bernstein.
In the first game, Pacific scored the game's first run on an RBI single by Brandi Gordon, but exploded in the third for five runs thanks to a pair of RBI doubles from Crystal Presson and Lauren Sandelin and an RBI single from Michelle Anunciation. The Tigers added six more in the sixth (all with two outs) on RBI doubles from Anunciation and Jennifer Curtier, a two- run single from Ashlie D'Errico, and a two-run home run by Presson to make it 12-0. Alyce Jorgensen scattered just two hits and struck out two in the six-inning complete game.
Against Oregon State, the Beavers struck first, loading the bases in the third thanks to a pair of walks and a double down the left field line. That brought up Kelly Petersen, who promptly singled to center, driving in a pair for the 2-0 lead. The Beavers added three more in the third (all unearned) thanks to three Minnesota errors in the inning to complete the scoring. Brianne McGowan struck out seven while allowing just two hits in the complete-game win. Senior Lyn Peyer struck out six for Minnesota while allowing two earned runs on four hits.
